Wrightstown upends favored Kiel

KIEL - Wrightstown, the No. 6 seed in its Division 2 baseball regional, upset No. 3 seed Kiel 12-10 in a regional quarterfinal game on Wednesday.


It was one of the few first-round games played on June 9. Most quarterfinal games are scheduled for Thursday, June 10.


The game was a hitters' showcase. with four home runs and four doubles. The two teams combined for 26 hits.

For the Tigers, Riley Leick, Braxtan Wasurick and Quincy Klister all had three RBI. Wasurick homered, as did Isaac VanDerMeer, Brandon Stephany and Daniel Schmitz of Kiel.

Wrightstown plays again next Tuesday, June 15, against the winner of the June 10 game between Two Rivers and Green Bay Notre Dame.

The Tigers host the sectional semifinals and final on Tuesday, June 22, with semifinals at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., and the championship at 4 p.m.
