BRILLION – Brillion City Administrator Patty Schreiber has resigned from her position.
Schreiber submitted a letter to the city on Monday night, which was later accepted by Mayor Mike Smith, Smith confirmed to the newspaper.
Schreiber’s exit from the position is effective immediately and Smith said the city wishes her the best.
The city is in the middle of preparing its 2026 budget, so an interim administrator will be required to hire through a consulting group.
“The city’s looking at options for an interim administrator to fill the role,” Smith said.
The consultant groups have workers experienced with administrative work available to bring in for contracted work.
“That is the plan is (to get through the budget) at this point until we hire someone,” Smith said.
Smith said the city will begin work to actively recruit for a permanent hire.
Schreiber’s resignation continues an unstable few years for the position. After two decades of Lori Gosz in the position, the city has been through three administrators – Peter Wills, Richard Johnston and Schreiber. Wills was administrator from November 2020 to March 2022 before he was relieved of his duties by City Council. Johnston filled the position out of retirement then re-entered retirement after less than one year on the job.
After months of the city operating without an administrator, Schreiber was promoted from clerk-treasurer to administrator in October 2023. She also previously served on the Village of Reedsville board.
The administrator role carried a salary of $75,000 at the time of Schreiber’s hiring.
