Brillion hosts another Schwanny Day

BRILLION – The Brillion Schools recently hosted another Schwanny Day to celebrate 7th grade teacher Jim Schwantes.

Schwantes was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in the fall of 2016, and Brillion Middle School held its first Schwanny Day on Dec. 16 of that year. The school sold t-shirts and profits were donated to the American Cancer Society.

“Since then, we have been periodically having Schwanny Days in which staff can wear their shirts to support Jim and Sue, but also to support each other as we see our former colleague struggling,” Brillion Middle School Principal Bonnie Olson said.

Doctors have recently suggested they set up hospice care for Schwantes.

“He was again in the hospital and needed a little pick me up. Schwanny Day is our way of saying, ‘Hey, we are thinking of you and we care about you,’” Olson said.
