BRILLION - Friday the 13th in 2020 was a good one for the Brillion Lions.

They beat Southern Door (4-4) 14-6 to earn the program's first playoff win since 2012. The team had not qualified for the playoffs since 2013.

"I've never had a feeling like this before," Carter Stebane said.

Stebane's 9-yard touchdown with less than two minutes remaining helped give the Lions an 8-point cushion before they held Southern Door out of the endzone on defense.

Sam Galoff led the team with 71 yards rushing and scored in the third quarter to help give the Lions a 7-6 lead.

The Lions, now 7-0 this season, travel to top-seeded Amherst on Thursday, Nov. 19. Amherst advanced to the second level over Peshtigo via forfeit. The winner will earn a sectional championship in a unique season without all teams playing due to COVID-19.

Other area scores:

Lourdes Academy 49, Hilbert 28 (Level 1 Playoffs)

Wrightstown 28, Oconto Falls 6 (Level 1 Playoffs)

Reedsville 34, Markesan 16 (Non-conference; Reedsville advanced to Level 2 via Coleman forfeit)

Complete football coverage will be featured in the Nov. 19, 2020 print edition of The Brillion News.
