BRILLION – Jeff Capelle said he loved every second of being the Brillion girls basketball coach, but it’s time to step away from the role.
“It is a difficult decision,” Capelle said. “With my two boys really busy, they’re involved with many things, I just felt this was the right time to step down and be able to focus more energy on them.”
Capelle recently completed his 15th season as head coach, an era that included 222 wins. Both his tenure and wins are program highs.
His resignation was officially approved by the school board on Monday night.
Capelle joined the program as an eighth-grade girls coach then coached seventh and eighth grade boys for six years before he joined Ryan O’Leary’s staff with the girls’ program and coached JV for four years.
Capelle was a part of the 2010 staff that led the girls to the state tournament. As head coach, Capelle led the Lions to the sectional championship game in 2022 and a three-peat as conference champions from 2021-23. His final season ended with a regional title after memorable wins against Seymour and Freedom.
Capelle will remain Brillion’s athletic director and technology education teacher.
