GREEN BAY – The COVID-19 pandemic has created challenges for just about everyone in our community. The impact can be particularly difficult for those already recovering from an addiction to drugs or alcohol.
Recognizing the impact that social distancing can have on someone in recovery, the Jackie Nitschke Center (JNC) in Green Bay is now offering virtual Recovery Wellness Check-Ins for anyone facing alcohol or other drug addictions, and is offering a number of other virtual options for those dealing with addiction
“Addiction is often a disease of isolation and this pandemic, with the need to social distance, has put recovery at risk for many,” said Michelle Pierquet-Hohner, Director of Community & Donor Engagement at the Jackie Nitschke Center. “We felt strongly that it was important to provide another way for people to reach out. Our Recovery Wellness Check-Ins are an opportunity for anyone with a history of drug or alcohol addiction to make a connection with our staff during this troubling time.”
The virtual check-ins will be led by a professional facilitator from the Jackie Nitschke Center and are offered at least twice each week.
“It’s so important to offer this additional opportunity for those in the community who are in recovery during this devastating pandemic,” Pierquet-Hohner SAID. “These virtual check-ins are designed to give community members a place to connect for accountability, encouragement and support.”
The Recovery Wellness Check-Ins are free and open to anyone in the community. A person does not need to be a client of the Center to take advantage of this service. Those interested in participating should feel free to drop in – virtually - anytime from 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays.
In addition to the Recovery Wellness Check-Ins, the Center: continues to offer outpatient, and intensive outpatient treatment, through a virtual platform; is providing a virtual support group for program alumni; is beginning a virtual program for JNC’s Recovery Homes; is developing a virtual Family Education & Support series; and will be offering a free Recovery Meditation / Mindfulness Series in partnership with the High Heart Project.
