LITTLE CHUTE - A grassroots effort is under way where to help solve the need for cloth diapers in fire-ravaged Australia..

Bushfires are devastating Australia, forcing thousands of families to flee their homes. During this difficult time, families need help with so many items, including one that’s often overlooked: diapers (known as nappies in Australia).

Jake’s Diapers, founded in Wrightstown and now based in Little Chute, is partnering with a grassroots movement in Australia to help solve diaper need. Jake’s is working with the Cloth Community Fund Australia to provide cloth diaper kits directly to families impacted by the bushfires.

“In our short history, we’ve always rallied to help those in need during times of disasters,” said Stephanie Bowers, founder of Jake’s Diapers. “We knew we had to step up for this disaster as well and are asking others to join us in helping Australian families by donating to Jake’s. We will then use funds to supply cloth diaper kits to our partner agency.”

"We are completely overwhelmed and blown away by the responses we’ve had for the Bush Fire appeal,” said

Jacinta Lyne, the mom behind Cloth Community Fund Australia. “Our Melbourne team has been working hard this week on donations to get them through to the victims. We want to say a big thank you to Jake’s!"

As the largest cloth diaper bank in the world, Jake’s Diapers leverages relationships with global manufacturers and donors to supply culturally appropriate solutions to meet basic hygiene needs. This allows Jake’s to increase the impact of donor dollars to get needed supplies directly to families in crisis while working together with local responders.

“But we go beyond simply helping during a disaster. Once immediate needs are met, we focus on long-term needs, which are often overlooked in disaster response,” shares Stephanie Bowers.

Jake’s has launched the Australia Bushfire Relief: Nappies for Children fundraiser on the crowdsourcing platform GlobalGiving. To make a donation by check, send it to: Jake’s Diapers, 1775 Bohm Drive, Little Chute, WI 54140 and note that the donation is for the Australia bushfire relief efforts.
