BRILLION – The hits just keep coming for the 2025 Brillion softball team – literally.
The Lions (21-3) defeated Southern Door 10-2 on Thursday to earn the program’s first regional championship since 2018.
Brillion’s 21 wins this season also set a new program record.
“The girls have been great this year. I think energy has been a huge part of it,” senior catcher Ella Kuchenbecker said. “It’s just been positive all around.”
As the offense had multiple contributors against the Eagles, Grace Krueger handled pitching duties for the Lions.
“You’ve got a little pressure (pitching) but it’s fun because the game is in your control … and I’ve got my defense to back me up so that gives me more confidence. It’s a team game," Krueger said.
The regional final win sets up a third meeting with No. 2 Valders this coming Tuesday, June 3, in the sectional semifinal. Valders beat No. 3 New Holstein 2-0 on Thursday to advance.
Brillion and Valders were co-champions in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference this season and split the two regular season meetings.
The top-seeded Lions beat Kiel 5-0 on Tuesday to advance to the regional final.
Complete postseason coverage will be featured in the print edition of The Brillion News.
