BRILLION - For the 18th time in program history, the Brillion Lions are conference champions.

The Lions beat Valders 47-6 in a dominant regular season finale on Friday night. The win ensured them a share of this year's conference championship.

The Lions and Roncalli both finished the regular season 7-2 overall and 6-1 in the conference. The Jets beat Chilton 43-13 on Friday night. New Holstein could have made it a three-way tie, but lost to St. Mary Catholic 23-20.

Heath Cousin scored four touchdowns in the win against Valders. He caught two touchdowns from quarterback Joe Shimek, rushed for one score and returned the second half opening kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown.

Shimek finished with 175 yards passing. Hayden Cousin, Weston Schmidt and Brenner Nett all scored rushing touchdowns. Kelvin Gilbertson caught four passes for 85 yards.

"We just have to keep up the energy in practice. We had a great last two weeks of the year so gotta continue that, carry that into the playoffs. Coach said it, our season's not over yet," Heath Cousin said after the game.

Level 1 Playoffs

Brillion drew a No. 3 seed in the WIAA Division 5 playoff bracket and will host No. 6 Watertown Lutheran Prep on Friday night at 7 p.m. in a Level 1 playoff game. The winner of that game will meet either No. 2 Amherst or No. 7 Lancaster in Level 2. Mayville is the No. 1 seed in the sectional.

In Division 7, No. 2 Hilbert will host No. 7 Pittsville and No. 4 Reedsville will host No. 5 Crivitz.

Complete football coverage will be featured in the Oct. 23, 2025, print edition of The Brillion News.
