MANITOWOC – A 17-year old Milwaukee man was arrested after he fled from an attempted traffic stop at 11:40 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14, on the south side of Manitowoc.

When he fled a sheriff’s patrol car and the deputy attempted to stop him, he took a corner turn too fast and crashed into a tree. The car burst into flames, but the deputy got the driver, Demetrius Jamal Selman, and his passengers – a 17-year old male and 18-year old female – out of the burning car. They suffered minor injuries.

The passengers were released, but Selman was arrested for felony fleeing (causing bodily harm) and endangering safety. He was also cited for operating without a valid driver’s license, and for operating at an unreasonable and imprudent speed.

Manitowoc Police amd Manitowoc Fire assisted at the scene at South 21st and Columbus. The fire was put out by the deputy in pursuit and other officers, using a fire extinguisher.
