Obituary: Barbara Lea (Doughty) Thurow

On February 6, 2026, there was no more suffering for Barbara Lea (Doughty) Thurow.

Facing a devastating diagnosis, Barb did not stop fighting.  When given months, she decided to take years.  She added memories of dancing at her grandson’s wedding, meeting her great-grandchildren, touring colleges and attending musicals, seeing her grandson find love, watching the granddaughter she helped raise become a strong, independent woman, and traveling non-stop with her daughter.  Even when it was physically difficult, she remained positive and strong.  We expected no less from her.  She helped us through family tragedies that others could not imagine.

Barb did hair in Brillion for many years.  She owned and operated Main Street Styles, and it connected her to so many people in the community.  Just weeks before her passing, she was still doing hair for friends and family as she kept a styling chair in her back room.

With Barb, it was not all work.  There was a lot of play.  She traveled with Bob, made sure all the grandkids got to Disney, and enjoyed warm vacations with her sisters.  Her friend group from high school has remained close.  I know these people as well as I know my own family.  Celebrating the 4th of July, Wisconsin Dells, February weekend get-away; it was amazing growing up with them.

Her house was full this past week.  Friends and family coming just to be with her.  She felt that love and support as much as I did.  I heard stories of what a kind and compassionate person she was.  I hope to follow her example.

She now gets to be reunited with her husband, Bob, son Jason, and many other people she loved and missed.

She leaves behind her daughter, Holly (Farid); grandchildren: Cody (Allyson), Gavin (Kelsey), Natalie, and Amira; great-grandchildren: Maisie and Kashton; and her loyal dog Murphy who protected her until the end.

You were so loved.  We will miss you.

Love, Holly
