OBITUARY: Flora "Louise" Sorensen Gehl

Louise Gehl, 80, unexpectedly passed away early March 12, 2021 in Holly Springs, GA.



She was born August 5, 1940 in Seattle, WA to Christy and Marguerite (Dobler) Sorensen. She graduated from Holy Angels Academy High School in Seattle in 1958 and moved to Wisconsin with her friend Barbara (Redfield) Spoehr. She married Luke Gehl in Hilbert, WI on December 1, 1961.


Louise worked as a secretary in Menasha, WI before marriage and after raising four children on a farm, worked as a secretary at Hilbert High School for 12 years. She moved to Georgia in 1987 and worked for an Engineering firm, from which she retired in 2015. She was a loving woman who's children and grandchildren were the focus of her life, especially when it came to youth sports.


She is survived by her brother Marty (Charleyne) Sorensen of San Jose, CA; children Curt (Michele) Gehl of Bucyrus, KS, Shirley (Todd) Byrd of Kennesaw, GA, Luke Gehl and Mike (Pam) Gehl of Hilbert; in-laws Paul (Carol) Gehl of Hilbert, Mark (Kathy) Gehl of Prescott, WI, Barbara (John) Komoroske of SunPrairie, WI, Matt (Candace) Gehl of Hilbert, Nona Gehl of Hilbert, Elaine (Bud) Durman of Branford, FL; grandchildren Mike Mortimer, Hannah and Katharine Byrd of Georgia, Madison and Carter Gehl of Kansas, Jessica and Courtney Gehl of Wisconsin. A special thanks to her friend Pat Rigoni.


Louise is preceded in death by her parents, husband Luke Gehl, sister Mary (Gene) Melanson, brother-in-law Jack (Ruth) Gehl, sister-in-law Jeanette (Ernie) Dingeldein.


Louise will be cremated, as was her wish. At this time no specific service times have been scheduled, although a small service and celebration of her life is being planned for May of this year in Georgia and a formal funeral and celebration this coming summer in Wisconsin.

In lieu of flowers etc, please donate to St. Mary's Catholic School or the Hilbert High School booster club, both of Hilbert, Wisconsin.
