Obituary: Joanne Clara Thiel

Joanne Clara Thiel, age 84 of Hilbert, died on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Theda Care Region Medical Center in Appleton. She was born May 6, 1938 in Chilton, daughter of the late Arnold & Erna (Behnke) Heimann.

She married the love of her life, Daniel Thiel, on June 6, 1959 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chilton and the couple farmed together in the St. John area until their retirement. It was during this time she raised her four children and tended to her brood of chickens. She also worked at Chilton Metal Products and in the ASCS Office in the Courthouse. Her favorite job, however, was babysitting and spoiling all of her grandchildren.

She was a member of St. John Catholic Church in St. John where she sang in the choir and was active with the Christian Women. She was also a long time member of the Catholic Knights, never missed a Milwaukee Brewer game and was well known for her delicious peanut squares. She looked forward to gambling trips with her dear friends, Dorothy Richart & Patsy Woelfel where she looked forward to games of Blackjack so she could visit with others and make new friends.

Survivors include her children: Diane (Gary) Hemauer, Donna Schwalenberg (Darrell Parsons), Gary (Marisa) Thiel, Tom (Beckie) Thiel; her grandchildren: Kim (Eric) Rivas, Mitch Schwalenberg, Kelsie (Mike) Dallmann, Spencer (Megan) Thiel, Hallie (Mark) Londre, Hannah (Joel) Schroeder, Hayden (Emily) Thiel, Hattie (Preston) Schwalenberg; great grandchildren: Kayden & Iyla Rivas, Lillianna Dallmann, Garrett & Grace Londre, Jack & Atlee Schroeder, Graham Thiel, Everett, Ruby, Lettie & Remi Schwalenberg with two more arriving soon; her siblings: Beverly Leher, Arnie (Millie) Heimann, Bonnie (Alfred) Schneider; and her siblings-in-law: Doris Stommel, Donald (Lois) Thiel & Carol Kloeppel. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Daniel; and her siblings-in-law: James Lehrer, Roland Stommel & Roger Kloeppel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at St. Mary Catholic Church (108 S. 6th St.) in Hilbert with Rev. Michael Betley officiating. Burial will be in the St. John Catholic Cemetery in St. John. Friends may call at the church from 8:30 am until 10:45 am on Saturday, October 8, 2022.
