Obituary: Leo K. Skattebo

Leo K. Skattebo, age 88, a former Brillion resident, died Sunday, June 28, 2026 at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center, Plymouth where he resided this past year. 

He was born February 12, 1938 in the Town of Liberty, son of the late Olvin and Sophia (Halderson) Skattebo. Leo was confirmed in 1953 at Valders Evangelical Lutheran Church and he was a graduate of Valders High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1956 until 1959 where he served as Lance Corporal, Leo continued serving in the Marine Corp Reserves from 1959 until 1963. Leo continued school at Manitowoc Technical Institute in 1967. On September 23, 1967 he married the former Lyndoris Riemer at St. John-St. James, Reedsville. Leo worked as a Designer Draftsman at Ariens Company from 1968 to 1991, he then worked at Brillion Iron Works till 2000 when he then retired. Leo was a member of St. Bartholomew for 57 years. Leo loved being outside to enjoy hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, traveling, and camping in Harbour Village and Hidden Ridge. Family was very important to Leo, he always looked forward to making memories with his children and grandchildren. He loved to make people laugh. When he couldn’t be outside, he enjoyed puzzles or completing projects in his workshop. Leo also enjoyed singing with the Brillion Barbershop Chorus.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years: Lyndoris Skattebo, Brillion; a son and daughter-in-law: Dean (Heather) Skattebo of Sierra Vista, AZ; two daughters and sons-in-law: Dawn (Nate) Cook of St. Louis, MO; Amie (Mike Schmierbach) Skattebo of State College, PA;  grandchildren: Brandy (Steve Copas) Skattebo, Kayann Smith, and Gabe Smith; step grandchildren Anabelle Cook, Alexis Cook, Alivia Cook and Abigail Cook; a brother and sister-in-law: Glenn (Bonnie) Skattebo of Milwaukee; and a sister: Lois Lafleur of Manitowoc. He is further survived by sisters-in-law: Marilyn Dvorachek and Elaine Labitzke and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law: Arthur & Lydia Riemer; siblings:  Helen (Elmer) Schanke, Doris (Howard) Gauger, Orrin Skattebo, Leo’s twin Leon (Audrey) Skattebo, Orley (Marilyn) Skattebo, and Marie Skattebo; three brothers-in-law: Bill Dvoracheck, Richard Lefleur and Ed Labitzke; Nieces and Nephews: Linda, Susie, Jenny, Howie, and Steve.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at St. Bartholomew Lutheran Church, Brillion. Officiating at the Service will be the Rev. Joshua J. Brandmahl with entombment at Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth. The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Bartholomew Lutheran Church, Brillion, from 9:30a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2026 until 10:45 a.m. when brief family rites will be held.
