Obituary: Patrick Henry Ariens

Patrick Henry Ariens, 93, cattle rancher of Green Hills, Calliope, loving husband of Marianne Ariens (nee Patterson) for 63 years, passed away, very peacefully on September 8th, 2023, in Gladstone, Queensland, Australia.



Pat was born on June 8, 1930, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, USA, the eldest son of Mando “Steve” Ariens and Katheryn “Sally” Green Ariens.


Patrick attended St. Mary’s Grade School, Brillion High School, and St. Norbert College in Wisconsin, and he served in the U.S. Marines. He taught history and physical education before working with his father and brothers at the Ariens Company. Patrick travelled the world before his marriage to Marianne. Continuing the adventures, they chose to move to the outback in Queensland, Australia, where Patrick established himself as a successful cattle rancher. He led an inspiring life, and he leaves behind a deep legacy. Patrick was a thoroughly devoted Catholic and lived his faith through service and kindness to others.

Patrick was a dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend to many. He is survived by his brother Stephen (Lynn), his wife Marianne and their nine children and twenty-one grandchildren: Joshue (Anna), and Joya, Theo, Lucy and Jonathan; Angel (Pete) and Jerome; John (Wendy), and Carli, Jed and Shannon; Patrick (Fiona) and Justin and Emily; Joachim; Alexander (Bernadette) and Elizabeth, Teresa, Catherine, Rebekah, Simon, Allistair and Patrick; Walt (Meegan) and Laney and Austin; Marialice (Tsering) and Karma, Maela and Namka; and David. He is preceded in death by his brothers Michael and Thomas and his granddaughter Carli.


The requiem mass will be held at Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Gladstone on Monday, September 18th at 11am, with the wake.
