FOREST JUNCTION – The governor’s office has approved a $2.7 million contract to improve 8.7 miles of U.S. 10 from the State 114-U.S. 10 split in Harrison to State 57/32 in Forest Junction. The entire project is within Calumet County.

Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, September 16 and finish in late October

A short-term closure and detour of U.S. 10 will take place at the beginning of construction for resurfacing of the U.S. 10/County N roundabout south of Darboy.

Otherwise, the highway will remain open to traffic for the rest of the project.

Northeast Asphalt Inc., of Greenville, is the prime contractor.

The work consists of milling and overlaying the existing asphalt pavement of U.S. 10 in the project limits, including the roundabout at 10 and County N.

Resurfacing of the roundabouts at State 55, south of Kaukauna, and at State 57/32 in Forest Junction is not included in the project plans.

The paved shoulders of U.S. 10 will be widened from three feet to five feet, and centerline and shoulder rumble strips will be engraved into the new pavement surface.

A short-term detour of approximately two weeks, depending on the weather, will be posted beginning Monday, September 16, for resurfacing at the County N roundabout. Access to properties will be maintained at all times.

During the roundabout work, traffic on 10 will be detoured via 114 and 55. County N traffic will be detoured via 114, 55 and County KK.

For the remainder of the project, U.S. 10 will remain open to traffic. Temporary single-lane closures with flag persons will be utilized during daylight hours during construction operations.

This project will provide a new driving surface and increase the lifespan of the current section of pavement. Safety is the reason for the new centerline and shoulder rumble strips and wider paved shoulders.
