REEDSVILLE – The Panthers were able to make amends for an early-season loss and clinch their first conference title since 2022 on Thursday night with a 74-62 win over Manitowoc Lutheran.

“I think it was kind of a revenge game,” senior Ben Prochnow said. “We knew they were going to come out with energy because the only way they could get a title was to beat us, so I think we just had to match their energy.”

The Lancers beat Reedsville 74-57 on Jan. 13, which was the Panthers’ first loss of the season. Thursday night was different. The Panthers never trailed, though the Lancers kept it close until late in the game.

Prochnow scored 22 points with 10 assists. Jack Schwahn, whose 3-point baskets in the first half helped build an early lead, finished with 17. Arden Strenn (12) and William Taddy (11) also contributed regularly on offense.

Reedsville finished 18-for-23 from the free throw line, which helped preserve the lead late in the game.

The Panthers beat St. Mary Catholic 75-66 on Feb. 20 to guarantee at least a share of the Big East-North Conference title.

The win closed a memorable regular season for the Panthers, one that included both team and individual highlights. Reedsville finished 21-3 overall with a perfect 12-0 record at home.

The Panthers, who already knew going into Thursday they received a Division 5 No. 1 seed, will host Gillett in a playoff game on Tuesday, March 3.

Thursday night was a quality warm-up for the playoffs.

“To get this kind of atmosphere before the playoffs, it’s really special. I wouldn’t take it for granted,” Prochnow said.
