Sherwood highway project meeting set

SHERWOOD - The state Department of Transportation (DOT) will hold an on-line only meeting on Wednesday, October 13, at 5 p.m. to update everyone on plans for the reconstruction of State 55 and State 114 in the Sherwood-Harrison area.


The project begins at the State 114 split from U.S. 10, then goes east and south through Sherwood to the split of State 55 and State 114 just south of Sherwood.

The meeting will be broadcast on the internet with full video and audio.

This is a significant project, and will be done in 2022. Some highlights:

  • Grinding up the existing asphalt pavement

  • Pulverizing the concrete base under the asphalt and using it as a ground rock base

  • Putting down fresh asphalt

  • Adding some nee turn lanes and turn islands

  • Adding centerline and shoulder rumble strips

  • Fixing curb and gutter where needed

  • Putting down new pavement markings

  • Replacing the railroad crossing surface

  • Widening the paved shoulders from the current 3 feet to 5 feet

  • Resurfacing parking lanes in Sherwood

  • Repairing frost heave damage to two culverts near the 55/114 split south of Sherwood

There will be some road closures required during this project, which will be done in three stages. There will be detours required.

The project is scheduled to begin sometime between April and June of 2021, and will take four to five months to complete. Construction could go into October of 2022.
