ASHWAUBENON – Shopko Stores is selling 42 of its in-store pharmacies to Krogers, the company that owns Pick N Save, Copps and Roundy grocery stores.

Of the 42 pharmacy locations sold to Kroger, 25 are in Wisconsin, including some in the Green Bay and Appleton areas. The pharmacies and their prescription files sold to Krogers would move to grocery stores that Kroger owns.

Shopko corporate spokesperson Michelle Hansen told THE BRILLION NEWS that the pharmacies at the Shopko outlets in Brillion and De Pere are not a part of this sale.

In recent weeks, Shopko has announced plans to close 39 of its stores – including 38 from the Shopko Hometown group – and there are rumors that the chain is preparing for possible bankruptcy. Industry-wide, many retail store chains are suffering from on-line retail competition.
