Statement released on fatal crash in Manitowoc County

Sheriff Dan Hartwig released the following information regarding a fatal crash that occurred in Manitowoc County on July 5.


On Monday, July 5, 2021, at approximately 7:43 AM deputies and EMS personnel responded to a two vehicle crash on USH 10 at CTH P / Homestead Road within the township of Manitowoc Rapids.


The preliminary investigation indicates 68-year-old Daniel Faken from rural Manitowoc was operating a 2017 Kenworth quad axel milk truck eastbound on USH 10. 86-year-old John Konop from the city of Manitowoc was operating a 2018 Lexus SUV northbound on CTH P / Homestead Road.


The SUV entered the intersection and was struck by the milk truck. The operator of the SUV {Mr. Konop) sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The operator of the milk truck was not injured.


The roadway was closed from approximately 7:50 AM until 11:17 AM while the scene was processed.


The Manitowoc County Coroner's Office indicated the preliminary cause of death was blunt force trauma.


No further information is being released at this time as the crash remains under investigation.
