Sunday fire destroys rural Greenleaf barn

The Brillion News

GREENLEAF - Fire broke out in a barn on the farm of Matt and Michelle Verbeten around 2 p.m. Sunday, and within an hour, the barn was destroyed.

The farm is in the Town of Holland, about three miles southwest of Greenleaf, on Mill Road.

Friends of the family said they believed the livestock were able to get out in time.

Matt Verbeten is the varsity wrestling coach at Wrightstown High School.

His team took first place at the New London Regional Tournament on Saturday, and competes at the Wautoma Team Sectional on Tuesday and at the Little Chute Individual Sectional on Saturday, Feb. 22.

The family's home is south of the barn, beyond the photo accompanying this story.

The Greenleaf, Hollandtown and Morrison fire departments were called to the scene. The Wrightstown Fire Department set up a fill station for water tank trucks in the village across the street from Wrightstown High School.

Elmro and Mill Roads were closed by deputies from the Brown County Sheriff's Department.
