  • Obituary: Wallace “Wally” Zahn

    Wallace “Wally” Zahn, age 94, of Rantoul, died on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Sycamore Senior Living in Kiel. He was born August 20, 1929 in the Town of Rantoul, son of the late Arno & Eleanora (Dallmann) Zahn.  Wallace married Cordia Minerva (Stecker) Klessig in the Summer of 1986 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Rantoul. Wally farmed on the family homestead much of his life, and when he was done with chores on the farm, he painted all throughout the area.  He even took great pride in painting the chancel at his beloved Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a lifelong, faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Rantoul and was always open to sharing God’s blessings with others.  He never complained about anything and often went about his day knowing he was accomplishing everything “with the Lord’s help”, which was one of his favorite phrases.  He also appreciated moments spent in his card clubs playing Sheepshead and never passed up a good meal.  Wallace will always be remembered as a man who continually kept a smile on his face with a toothpick in his mouth and a faithful dog on his lap because that was the way that he liked it best. Survivors include his step-children:  Tom Klessig, Paul Klessig and his special friend, Mary Jesko, Joel Klessig and his special friend, Jean Green, John (Janet Riebe) Klessig; son-in-law: Steve Schroth; grandchildren: Laura Runge and Sara (Dan Craigie) Schroth; his great grandchildren: Adela and Cora; a sister: Charlene August; a sister-in-law: Germaine Zahn; and a brother-in-law: Orville Stecker.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Cordia; a step-daughter: Kim Schroth; a sister: Minerva (Eldor) Behnke; a brother: Randy Zahn; a sisters-in-law: Rosaline Stecker, Verona (Edgar) Klessig; and a brothers-in-law: William August, Vernon (Arlene) Stecker. Funeral service will be at 11:30 am on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Rantoul (N6081 W. River Road, Hilbert, WI) with Rev. Brett Simek officiating.  Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Rantoul.  A time of visitation will be held at church from 9:30 am until 11:15 am on Thursday, March 28, 2024.   • Obituary: Timothy “Tim” J. Christel

    Timothy “Tim” J. Christel, age 60, of Reedsville, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at his home. Tim was born on July 31, 1963 at Holy Family Hospital in Manitowoc, son of Darlene (Braun) Christel and the late Richard Christel. He was a graduate of Reedsville High School with the class of 1982. Tim transported cattle for Badgerland Cattle and also ran the family farm, Christel Dairy. On July 26, 2002 he married Ileana Maymir at St. James Catholic Church in Cooperstown. Tim always enjoyed having projects to work on and was a fan of Van Halen. He also liked to watch hunting videos and the America’s Funniest Home Videos. Tim enjoyed hunting trips as well as spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife: Ileana Christel; their children: Kenneth (Becca) Christel, Michael Link, Brian Link, Joseph (Brenda) Maymir, Jason Link, Nicholas Link, Caitlyn Link (special friend Hunter Renier), Ashlyn (Sean) Ehsani, Karalyn Bubolz, and Drake Christel; grandchildren: MyKayla, Kendra, Lillie, Alexis, Emerson, Isaiah, Isaac, Israel, Marcus, Cyrus, Koriana, Odin, Dominic, Myriana, Paisly, Jace, Waylon, Hayden; his mother: Darlene Christel; his siblings: Ric (special friend Lori Wiese) Christel, Jr., Jane (Lowell) Behnke, Patty (Al) Schreiber, Susie (Al) Smet, Sandy Christel, and Jeff (special friend Jeanine Danke) Christel; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Peggy (Ken) Dvorachek, Fred (Susan) Maymir, and Michael (Shawna) Maymir. Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard; one brother: Bill; mother-in-law: Myriam “Gabrielle” Maymir; father-in-law: Federicko Maymir; one brother-in-law: Henry Maymir, one sister-in-law: Jenny Christel, and great nephew: Jack Christel. Funeral Services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at the Pielhop Wieting Funeral Home of Brillion. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Ross Henzi. The family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service at 5:00 p.m. Online condolences may be made.   • Obituary: Mark Edward Moehr

    Mark Edward Moehr, age 68, of Brillion, died on Friday, March 22, 2024 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac. He was born June 30, 1955, son of the late Albert & Virginia (Maertz) Moehr.  As an analytical individual, Mark appreciated moments fixing things so that they could work for everyone.  He took great pride in his time working at Ariens where he took this self taught skill and applied it in the production of parts.  He later tended to Mar-La Cleaning Services that he operated with his sister until his retirement.  He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Brillion where he professed, cherished his faith and took comfort in all of the gifts that God had given him throughout his life.  He was a man who cherished each and every moment with his family, especially his nieces and nephews who he would drop everything whenever they asked for his help with nearly anything.  If there was ever a “job” to do, Mark would find a way to make it happen and passed this  drive and desire to each and every one of his nieces and nephews.   • Gallagher resigns from House of Representatives

    March 22, 2024 Wisconsin Rep. Mike Gallagher announced on Friday afternoon that he is resigning from his position as a member of the House of Representatives. Gallagher, 40, has represented Wisconsin’s Eighth Congressional District since 2017. Gallagher’s entire statement reads: After conversations with my family, I have made the decision to resign my position as a member of the House of Representatives for Wisconsin’s Eighth Congressional District, effective April 19, 2024. I’ve worked closely with House Republican leadership on this timeline and look forward to seeing Speaker Johnson appoint a new chair to carry out the important mission of the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party. My office will continue to operate and provide constituent services to the Eighth District for the remainder of the term. Four terms serving Northeast Wisconsin in Congress has been the honor of a lifetime and strengthened my conviction that America is the greatest country in the history of the world. I will forever be proud of the work I did on the Armed Services and Intelligence Committees, chairing the Cyberspace Solarium Commission, and chairing the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party. It has truly been an honor to serve in the House of Representatives. The announcement comes weeks after Gallagher announced on Feb. 10 he would not seek reelection. Wisconsin’s Eighth Congressional District includes Brillion, Chilton and Hilbert.

  • Obituary: Kay Lynn Krueger

    Kay Lynn Krueger, age 72, a Brillion resident, passed away unexpectedly March 11th, 2024. She was born on February 21st, 1952 in Alpena, Michigan daughter to the late Karl F. and Lucille (King) Hasse. Kay was a graduate of Brillion High School, Class of 1970. Kay was a hairdresser in Neenah during the early part of her career at the salon, Where the girls are and eventually moving to Panache' in Green Bay where she transitioned into being a nail technician.  Ending her beauty career closer to home at Hair Tellers in Potter. She met some life-long friends during this journey of her life. Kay then acquired her health Insurance license and founded The Krueger Family Insurance agency and had continued on that path until present.  She really loved the insurance business and servicing her community and clients through her passion of helping and caring for others. Kay enjoyed crafting and sewing, especially with her granddaughters.  The girls will continue this tradition with each other as they grow older and continue to appreciate the pure joy of learning this skill from their Nana. Kay also enjoyed tending to her flower beds and Sunday brunch with her friends.  She always made sure those around her felt loved, especially during holidays and special occasions.  Her door was always open and she loved to host her friends and family any chance she could get. Survivors include a son Jason Krueger, Madison; a daughter and son-in-law: Joelle (Garett) Zimpel, Brillion; Two granddaughters: Amelia & Rachel Zimpel, Brillion; one brother and sister-in-law: Kip (Marilyn) Hasse, Brillion; and brother-in-law: Darryl McMahon, Kewaunee. She was preceded in death by a sister: Karla McMahon. There will be a celebration of life at a later date. Online condolences may be made.   • Obituary: Norman L. Ott

    Norman L. Ott, age 80, of Brillion, passed away peacefully on March 10. He was born on December 7, 1943, to the late Donald and Lucille (Zick) Ott. He graduated from Brillion High School in 1962, Platteville State University in 1967 and later received his master's degree from Viterbo University. On June 18, 1966, he married Nancy Peik. He taught agriculture and junior high science for 35 years at Brillion Public Schools. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Brillion. Norm enjoyed traveling, reading, playing cards, woodcarving, and making stained glass projects. He had fond memories of spending time at the cottage and fishing with his son in Canada for many, many years. In addition to his professional achievements and dedication to his family, Norm will be fondly remembered for his warm smile, sense of humor, and the positive impact he made on the lives of hundreds of students and fellow teachers. Family was at the core of Norm's life. Norm is survived by his wife, Nancy, after 57 years of marriage; children Jeffrey (Shirley) Ott of Crivitz, Carrie (Scott) Penovich of Appleton, and Jennifer (Brent) Wilson of Lake Geneva. Norm is survived by grandchildren Hayden, Brecken, and Karsen Ott, step-grandson Alec (Samantha) Garcia, Tyler and Lexi Penovich, Chase, Elliana, and Lillyan Wilson and step-grandchildren Tyler and Sydney Wilson. He is further survived by brothers David Ott, Joel (Betty) Ott, and Scott (Annie) Ott, and sisters Julie (Jerome) Bastian, Kristie Cournoyer, Kaye (William) Wynen, Mary (Tom) Brouillard; sister-in-law Deloris Behnke; many nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends. Norm was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers-in-law Kent Cournoyer and Wilmer Behnke. There will be a celebration of life at Faith United Methodist Church, 204 Horn Street, Brillion on March 16. Family and friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church, followed by the service. Burial will take place at Brillion Community Cemetery. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Brillion West Haven and Heartland Hospice for the wonderful care given to Norm.   • Panthers headed to sectional final

    March 8, 2024 By David Nordby The Brillion News The Panthers are within one game of a trip to the WIAA state tournament. Reedsville beat Lourdes Academy 50-37 in the sectional semifinal on Thursday night in Pulaski after evaporating a 9-point halftime deficit. The Panthers outscored Lourdes 28-6 in a dominant second half. Senior Camden Dvorachek finished the game with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Ben Prochnow scored 14 points and had five assists. Other scorers were Logan Maertz 9, Arden Strenn 6 and Gavin Dvorachek 2. The Panthers will play fellow top-seed Almond-Bancroft on Saturday night in the sectional championship at 7 p.m. at Hortonville High School. Almond-Bancroft is 26-1 overall this season and beat Three Lakes 64-52 in the sectional semifinal. They are led by longtime head coach Curt Lamb. Three players have averaged double figures for Almond-Bancroft this season – Ayden Phillips (25.0 PPG), T.J. Lamb (18.1 PPG) and Brody Dernbach (10.6 PPG). The Panthers are in their third season with Ron Prochnow as head coach. They clinched a regional title all three years. This is the first season they've reached the sectional final. A sectional championship would clinch the first trip to the state tournament for the Panthers since the legendary 1946 team that won the state title. Almond-Bancroft is seeking its first state tournament appearance. The Division 5 state tournament semifinal games are the morning of Friday, March 15, at the Kohl Center in Madison.

  • Obituary: Bonnie L. Monty

    Bonnie L. Monty, age 79, of Chilton, passed away peacefully at Willowdale Health and Rehabilitation Center in New Holstein on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. Bonnie was born on January 10, 1945 in Rantoul, daughter of the late Raymond and Ruth (Bettner) Aplin. She married Kenneth Monty on September 27, 1983 at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Neenah. Bonnie enjoyed camping, spending time at church doing various activities, was an animal lover, but especially loved spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband: Kenneth of Chilton; children: Raymond (Rhonda) Brantmeier of Neenah, Darrin (Wendy) Brantmeier of Florida, and Heidi Brantmeier of Wisconsin Rapids; grandchildren: Ian, Nathan, Natalie, Noah, Samantha, Natassia, Alicia; great-grandchildren: Kadin, Kaleah, Kannon, Aubree, Matthew, and Michael; one sister and brother-in-law: Darlene (Jerome) Mertz of Potter; special nephew: Richard Nevenhoven; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by twin granddaughters: Hannah and Faith Brantmeier; sisters: Betty (Royal) Becker, Janice (Harvey) Hartz, Dolores (Willard) Knoespel; brothers: Eugene (Delores) Aplin, Jerome (Nancy) Aplin, and James (Audrey) Aplin; father-in-law: Vernie Vincent “Rocky” Monty; mother-in-law: Dorothy Gates Thielen; in-laws: Barbara Monty, Rose Marie Thielen, and Robert Thielen; and other relatives. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at Peace Evangelical and Reformed in Potter.  Rev.
