Karen L. Scharf, age 79, of Brillion, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, January 20, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer. Karen was born in Green Bay, the daughter of the late Hank and Harriett (Anderson) Krueger.  At a young age, her family moved from Hilbert to Brillion.  Karen graduated from Brillion High School with the class of 1961.  She went on to further her education at the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh and returned later to receive her teaching degree at the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay.  Karen married Willis “Bick” Scharf on December 21, 1964.  They were married 49 years before he passed away on July 14, 2013.  Karen was a teacher at St. Mary Catholic School in Reedsville and then St. Mary Catholic School in Brillion.  She very much enjoyed teaching. Karen loved her family and especially loved being a Grandma and Great-Grandma. Monday and Wednesday nights and Saturday morning donuts were cherished time spent with family.  Karen and Bick loved their time at the cottage, on Long Lake, going for cocktail cruises on the pontoon boat with friends and family. After retirement, they spent most of the winter in Florida where Karen continued the winter pilgrimage until this year! She really enjoyed watercolor painting and taking painting classes whenever she could.  She started Bridge club which has been meeting since 1966 and was in a book club for over 15 years. Karen loved to paint, read, play games, attend plays and musicals, camp with family and friends and travel - especially to Jamaica. Many lifelong friendships were made through Karen and Bick’s involvement in Cursillo and Marriage Encounter.  Karen had so many dear friends that she cherished so very much and were an important part of her life. As Karen wrote, “I had a wonderful life!” The family would like to thank all those who “held mom’s hand” and supported her during this time. Karen is survived by her children and spouses:  Melissa (Jeff) Weber of Freedom, Steve (RuthAnn) of Kaukauna, Becky Van Elsen of Kaukauna, and Mike (Kary) of Brillion; grandchildren: Joshua (Katie) Weber, Tyler (Johanna) Weber, and Meghan (James) De Grave, Zack Scharf, Dr. Zoey Scharf, Mykela (Bailey) Krueger, and Maxwell (Katelyn) Scharf Great grandchildren: Stella and soon-to-be baby boy Weber, Oliver and soon-to-be baby Weber, William and soon-to-be baby boy De Grave, Aurelia and Renold Krueger, and soon-to-be baby boy Scharf; one brother and sister-in-law: Scott (Peggy) Krueger of Lady Lake, FL; other in-laws: James Williams of Brillion and Lyle Bruss of Green Bay; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bick, her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Arno and Edna (Peter) Scharf; sister: Linda Williams; sister-in-law: Arnita Bruss; and other relatives. Funeral Mass will take place at 12:00 p.m. NOON on Thursday (TODAY) January 25, 2024, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Brillion.  Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Tom Pomeroy and Deacon Greg Van Thiel.  Burial will be in the church cemetery. James “Jamie” Craig Koster of Brillion, WI, age 71, died unexpectedly on Sunday January 14, 2024 at his home. He was born on June 23, 1952 in Osage, IA, son of the late Darwin & Lanita (Hansen) Koster. They lived on a farm near St. Ansgar, IA. He graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1969. He then attended NIACC & Upper Iowa University where he played football & wrestled. On March 18, 1972, he married Ellen Gabrielson. Together they had 4 daughters –Jennifer, Kari, Amy, & Mary. He was a supervisor at White Farm Equipment in Charles City, IA and later moved to Brillion, Wisconsin in 1993 where he became a supervisor at the Brillion Iron Works. He enjoyed bowling, playing slow pitch softball, trap shooting, dancing, and playing cards. He loved the outdoors! Fishing, camping, trapping, hunting for morel mushrooms, asparagus, raccoon, and deer. He also was a Packers fan, but was the biggest fan to all 13 of his grandkids and great granddaughter. He loved to help and guide them as well as the many other kids he mentored, coached, and followed over the years. His smile and laugh would light up a room. His “wooooing” in the crowd will be missed. Jamie is survived by his wife of almost 52 years, Ellen of Brillion; their daughters, sons-in-law, and their children: Jennifer (Ted) Fox of Osage, IA & children Christian (Bridget) & Haley, Derek (special friend, Emma), Nicholas (special friend, Samie), & Blake, daughter: Kari (Tony) Geiger of Brillion, WI & son Grant, daughter: Amy (Craig) Hedrich of Brillion, WI & children Jenna (special friend, Colton), Tyler, Lauren (special friend, Blake), & Kara, and daughter: Mary (Pete) Schuh, of Brillion WI & children Olivia, Claire, Emma, & Aubrey; his siblings: Kathy Chancellor of Atwater, MN, Lori (Tony) Mayer of St. Ansgar, Kevin (Kristie) Koster of St. Ansgar; in-laws:  Mark Gabrielson, Kathleen (Clancy) Tucker, and Janice Gabrielson; lots of very special nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Darwin & Lanita Koster; Brother-in-law-Roger Chancellor; niece: Kris Fischer; mother & father-in-law: Patricia & Paul Gabrielson; Sister-in-law: Doris Gabrielson; nephew: Matthew Gabrielson; and many special friends. He was a great son, brother, husband, dad, grandpa, uncle and friend to so many. Funeral Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 21st, at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, 601 E National Ave, Brillion, WI. Officiating will be Rev. Ross Henzi and Rev. Blanche Janice (Pautz) Wasmuth, age 90, formerly of Brillion, passed away at Wayside Parkview Estates on Saturday, January 13, 2024. Blanche was born on August 6, 1933 in the Town of Rantoul in Calumet County, daughter of the late Elmer and Hilda (Bartel) Pautz.  She grew up on the farm with six siblings and when asked about her life she often said “I’m just a farm girl”.  Blanche was a graduate of Chilton High School Class of 1951.  After high school, she worked at the Hansen Glove factory in Kiel and the Borden’s Cheese factory in Plymouth until she met her husband Dale Wasmuth of Plymouth. She married Dale Wasmuth on August 2, 1958 at St. Peter’s U.C.C. in Kiel.  Blanche and Dale enjoyed 58 years of marriage before his passing on November 1, 2016.  Blanche’s life followed Dale’s grocery career with A & P living in Berlin and Rosendale, meeting many friends along the way.  Blanche was a stay-at-home mom, raising three boys.  In 1978, Blanche and Dale purchased their own grocery store in Reedsville, Dale’s United Foods.  It was then that Blanche worked side-by-side with Dale for 21 years, retiring in 1999.  Upon their retirement, they built their dream home on Deer Run Golf Course in Brillion. Over the years, Blanche enjoyed going to dances with Dale, couples’ bowling, fishing trips to Canada and Washington, and spending time at their cottage on Long Lake.  She enjoyed listening to polka music, tending her flower beds and plants (she grew the most perfect tomatoes).  During her retirement, she was able to enjoy time with her family especially caring for her twin granddaughters.  Blanche has been a member of St. John St. James Lutheran Church in Reedsville for over 45 years. Blanche is survived by her sons: Michael and Carrie (Kiekhaefer) of Brillion, Randall & Jenny (Wendland) of Wayside, and Brian Wasmuth of Reedsville.  Her grandchildren:  Tracie (Wasmuth) and Jonathan Kusowski, Ty and Courtney (Kenneke) Wasmuth, Lexi Wasmuth and special friend Adam Hietpas, Whitney Wasmuth, and Jami Wendland.  Her great-grandchildren:  Violet, Ruby, and Baby Kusowski, Easton, Ellis, and Emerson Wasmuth, and Jameson and Jeno Costello.  Brother and sister-in-law: David and Sue Pautz, Sisters and brother-in-law: Jeannette Maurer, and Vernice and Earl Krueger, Sister-in-law:  Barb Pautz, Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law:  Roland and Margie Wasmuth.  Many nieces and nephews also survived. Blanche was preceded in death by her parents and in-laws William and Martha (Wittkopp) Wasmuth, her husband Dale, Brothers and sister-in-law:  Lester and Ethel Pautz, Norman Pautz, and Leroy Pautz, Brother-in-law:  Daniel Maurer, Sister-in-law:  Lois Wasmuth, Nephews:  Donald Pautz and Wayne Pautz. Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday (TODAY) January 18, 2024 at St. John – St. James Lutheran Church in Reedsville. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Thad Flitter. Anton A. “Tony” Olp, Sr. age 55, of Hilbert, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton.  He was born January 14, 1968 in Chilton, son of the late Arnie & Judy (Dohr) Olp.  On November 11, 2005, Tony married Holly Doege in Chilton, Wisconsin. Tony began his career in carpentry with Miron Construction where he had worked for over 30 years where he had become a project supervisor and foreman. Tony was a long time member of Peace Evangelical & Reformed Church in Potter and with a passion for coaching baseball and softball, he was also involved in the Hilbert Athletic Association.  He also volunteered as an Assistant Den Leader for the Hilbert Cub Scouts. Tony appreciated the thrill of racing stock cars, but his true passion was his time spent coaching baseball and Potterball.  There wasn’t one of his children that he didn’t coach something throughout their lives.  In his free time, Tony looked forward to the leisure of camping throughout the State and spending time with his family.  He was also known for tinkering on his house, going so far as to invent projects to fix even though that project didn’t exist in the first place. He will be fondly remembered as a loving guy with a big heart who wouldn’t hesitate to help anyone.  He was perpetually very supportive to everyone around him and cared for the needs of others’ ahead of his own. Survivors include his wife: Holly; his children: Mariah (Luke) Fischer, Alex Olp, Kyra Mertz (Josh Meier), Anton Olp, Jr.; his grandchildren: McKinley Fischer and Layna Fischer, Berkley Meier; his sister: Marissa (David) Kieso; his mother-in-law: Sheri Doege, sister-in-law: Kim (Les) Wilkum, brother-in-law Dave Doege; aunts & uncles: Sue (Dave) Lautenslager, Mary Brantmeier, Alvin (Kim) Dohr, Jr., Mary Fenlon, Carol Olp, Arlan (Patricia) Olp, Norman Olp, Marvin Olp; and a nephew: David Kieso, III. He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law: Ron Doege; his maternal and paternal grandparents; Granddaughter Macie Meier: Niece Kora Kieso, and aunts and uncles: Barbara Halbach and her special friend, David Diedrich, Tom Brantmeier, Pat Fenton, Sr., Sandy Olp, LaVonne Olp, & Donna Woelfinger. Connie Rae Petermann, age 64, of town of Rockland, passed away on Sunday, December 31 2023. Connie was born on June 3, 1959 in Chilton, daughter of the late Robert and Angeline “Angie” (Porfilio) Hephner.  She was a graduate of Chilton High School, class of 1978.  She went on to further her education at Lakeshore Technical College and Fox Valley Technical College, earning a degree in nursing.  On May 14, 1983, she married Daniel Petermann at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Chilton.  Connie gradually worked her way up in the nursing career to become a Registered Nurse. Throughout her career, she worked at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, the Chilton Nursing Home, and the Valders Clinic.  Before she passed, she was working at the Reedsville School District as the School Nurse and at Fox Valley Technical College as an instructor.   Connie loved her family, and she always found ways and treats to spoil her grandchildren whenever she could. Connie is survived by her husband of 40 years, Dan of Brillion; their children: Nicole (Glen) Wirth of Brillion, Laura Petermann of Brillion, and Adam (Amanda) Petermann of Reedsville; grandchildren: Kaden and Kylie Wirth and Liam and Baby Girl Petermann; siblings and in-laws: Carmella Hephner of Virginia, Robert (Kim) Hephner of Chilton, Cathy (Norb) Brenner of Mount Calvary, Christine (Jesse) Hildebrandt of New Holstein; in-laws: Carol (Melvin) See of Chilton, Gerald “Sonny” Petermann of Brillion, Charlotte Bloemer of Brillion, and Nancy Petermann of Brillion; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Edwin and Georgianna (Keller) Petermann, brother-in-law: Tom Bloemer, sister-in-law: Geraldine Petermann, and other relatives. Alfred J. Ziemer Jr, age 89 of Reedsville passed away on Wednesday January 3, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. Alfred was born on May 4, 1934, in Green Bay, son of the late Alfred and Esther (Behnke) Ziemer Sr. He was a graduate of Reedsville High School in 1952. On April 27, 1957, Alfred was married to Virginia L. Kalies at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church in Brillion. The couple farmed in the Town of Maple Grove until moving to Reedsville in 1998. He was a member of St. John St. James Ev. Lutheran Church in Reedsville. In the past he served on the church council, finance board, and the school board. Alfred enjoyed high school sports and farming. Survivors include his wife Virginia Ziemer, Reedsville; one daughter and son-in-law: Donna(Jeff) Ditzel, Minneapolis, MN; one son and daughter-in-law: David Ziemer, Reedsville, Diane Ziemer, Appleton; two grandchildren: Matthew (Caitlin) Ziemer, San Francisco, CA and Katelyn (Dan) Hagenow, Wayside; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law include: Beverly Kalies, Pine River, Janet Kalies, Brillion, Betty (Pete) Zarnoth, Brillion, Nancy (Norm) Raatz, Appleton, Marlene Kalies, Fremont, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends survive. Ronald Harold Bornemann, 80, of Hilbert, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2023. He was born July 24, 1943 in Paso Robles, California, the son of Harold and Mabel Bornemann (Menting). He married Dolores Ann Diener on August 8, 1964 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hilbert. He received his accounting degree from Badger Business College and would go on to work as an accountant for over 40 years with Suttner Accounting until he retired in 2005.  He faithfully served the Lord as church treasurer of St. Peter's in Hilbert for more than 40 years. An accountant by profession, he was a carpenter at heart. He constructed his family home in Hibert in 1968.  Some 20 years later, he would design and build a cabin in Ashland County, Wisconsin with his brothers. He loved a project and was willing to help anyone that needed his skills. He also enjoyed the quiet time of fishing, especially with his sons and their families. ‘A good man’, these are the words you’ll hear from anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by his wife, Dolores Bornemann; sons: Jeffrey (Kimberly) and Brian (Jessica); four grandchildren: Jacob, Matthew, Lila, and Mason;  brothers Gary (Eileen) and Eric (Lynn); a sister-in-law: Bridget Bornemann; and a brother-in-law: Daniel (Connie) Diener. He joins his son Darin, brother Keith, and his parents in eternal peace. Ronald was also preceded in death by his in-laws: Emil and Erna Diener, Dale (Suzanne) Diener, and Darlene (Randy) Rollins.
