BRILLION – Valentine’s Day will have a little extra meaning from now on for Brillion couple Ken Devroy and Beth Matzke.

The couple will be a part of Y100’s Shotgun Wedding event on Friday, Feb. 14. The Shotgun Wedding event features four couples from Northeast Wisconsin saying ‘I Do’ live on-air as host “Shotgun” Randy Shannon, an ordained minister, oversees the wedding. The wedding takes place shortly after 8 a.m.

The first step to a wedding on the radio for Matzke and Devroy was finding out about the contest.

“We were busy sticking our money into the house and bought new vehicles and we saw this contest online and decided to enter it not thinking we would win, and we did win, so we thought well, what the heck. It will be a fun memory and something different,” Matzke said.

Matzke and Devroy are listeners of Y100 but didn’t pay close attention to the radio ceremonies the station did the last two years.

Devroy is from Brillion and Matzke is from De Pere.

“We were never going to do a traditional wedding just because it’s too much planning and too much work and too much money. This is a second marriage for both of us, so we always knew we wanted something simple, easy and this was kind of the way to go,” Matzke said.

The procedure leading up to the wedding has been straightforward.

“The process was just very easy. They gave us all the information … All the people who donated things were so nice,” Matzke said.

Leading up to the day of the wedding, when she spoke to The Brillion News, Matzke said she is nervous because so many people will be able to listen.

“I don’t like to be the center of attention all that much, so that part makes me a little bit nervous,” Matzke said. “It’s a lot of attention on us but it’s a super fun memory that we’ll be able to talk about for years.”

The radio station can be followed on Facebook and other social media sites by searching Y100 Country and available to listen to at 100.3 FM.

Friday’s show will be live all morning with the wedding starting shortly after 8 a.m. Prior to the ceremony, listeners will be able to get to know more about the couples.
