HILBERT – The Hilbert Village Board’s Park and Recreation Committee will be meeting at the village hall at 5 p.m. on Monday, July 31, and the topic is the future of the village’s primary park facility.

The meeting had been scheduled for July 24, but a medical emergency affecting a committee member forced postponement of the meeting by a week.

The committee will tour Hilbert Civic Park and then return to the village hall to discuss proposed park improvements, future plans for the baseball/softball diamonds, and signs for the fire station and community center building.

The committee may make recommendations on any of those topics to the full village board.

A related issue made the agenda of a special village board meeting on July 26: a request by the Voices of Peace Gospel Fest to upgrade facilities at the park. That item was not discussed at the July 26 meeting after Public Works Director Charlie Fochs said he has concerns about the request. The Voices of Peace group is from Potter and hosts a yearly Gospel music festival at Civic Park each August.

The July 31 meeting is open to the public.

The photo accompanying this story shows the outdoor stage at Civic Park which is used for a variety of events, including the Lions’ Club Fourth of July Picnic and the Voices of Peace Gospel Fest.
