State 57 reopening through Chilton

CHILTON – The Great Downtown Chilton Detour is coming to an end.

The state Department of Transportation announced Wednesday (October 5) that U.S. 151 (E. Chestnut Street) in the city of Chilton would open to traffic by noon Thursday, October 6. The highway had been detoured since July 18 for construction.

The $664,500 project reconstructed 1.4 miles of E. Chestnut Street from S. Madison Street to Elm Street in downtown Chilton.

The project also added new water main, storm sewer, sidewalk, signing and pavement marking. Minor finishing work remains.

Through traffic had been detoured through the city. Traffic on State 57 had been detoured over Breed Street (County Y) and Irish Road.
